As part of a broad but specialised education function for academic staff, the staff development office provides training and resources on numerous research-related topics: Postgraduate supervision, writing for publication, writing academic proposals, writing grant proposals, basic research ethics, intellectual property, etc. In cases where there is a lack of training capacity within the University, the office sources services from external experts. The other function of this office is to provide financial support to allow time-off for employees who have registered for their postgraduate qualifications.

- Training sessions are scheduled to take place after the predicate dates, when formal lecturing has concluded.
