The TUT guidelines on research output are informed by the government policy on research output. This output includes books, journals and chapters in books, as well as conference proceedings, which the government considers for funding. While the institution appreciates and recognises other forms of output besides the types indicated, TUT researchers are encouraged to strive for accredited output that will strongly enhance their individual academic profiles, boost institutional output and its position in relation to other institutions and also earn more dividends to promote further research. The institution administers some internal procedures for the evaluation of R&I output before it is sent to the Department of Education for further consideration.
